1、Drinking causes damage to the brain
研究:喝酒无论多少都伤脑
There is no such thing as a safe level of drinking, with increased consumption of alcohol associated with poorer brain health, according to a new study.
新研究指出，安全的饮酒量是不存在的，喝酒喝得越多，对大脑健康的损害就越大。
Drinking had an effect on the brain's gray matter - regions in the brain that make up important bits where information is processed, according to lead author Anya Topiwala, a senior clinical researcher at Oxford.
该研究的首席作者、牛津大学高级临床研究员安雅•托皮瓦拉指出，喝酒会影响大脑灰质，这是信息加工处理的重要区域。
The more people drank, the less the volume of their gray matter, Topiwala said.
托皮瓦拉说：人们喝的酒越多，大脑灰质就越少。
Researchers also found no evidence that the type of drink - such as wine, spirits or beer - affected the harm done to the brain.

2、Short videos can be addictive
六成人每天刷短视频一小时以上
A recent survey by China Youth Daily found that 60 percent of respondents spend a daily average of more than an hour watching short videos, with 11 percent spending three hours or more on them. Of the 2,017 total respondents, 74.2 percent said reasonable time management is necessary to avoid excessive viewing of short videos.
近日，中国青年报社对2017名受访者进行的一项调查显示，六成受访者每天花在刷短视频上的时间超过一个小时，11.1%的受访者每天刷3个小时以上。74.2%的受访者建议合理安排时间，限制过度沉迷短视频。
Short videos can be addictive as social media platforms keep recommending relevant content once a video ends, said Yang Binyan, a researcher with the Institute of Journalism and Communication Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
中国社会科学院新闻与传播研究所副研究员杨斌艳认为，短视频之所以令人上瘾，是因为社交媒体平台在一个视频结束后又不停地推荐下一个相关视频。
She added that short videos, often showing fragments from day-to-day life, can induce a feeling of social connectedness in viewers.
另外短视频很多是家长里短的日常，这样的内容能引发普通大众的体验和代入感。
3、Study finds shocking benefit of lightning
研究发现：闪电有助于改善全球气候
The new study published at the end of April in Science found that lightning may play a bigger role in global climate change than was previously known by the scientific community. Lightning increases the atmosphere's ability to cleanse itself, the researchers wrote in the study.
四月末发表在《科学》杂志上的新研究发现，闪电对全球气候变化的影响力可能比科学界先前所了解的更大。研究人员在报告中写道：“闪电会提高大气自我净化的能力。”
The Earth is struck by lightning nearly 20 million times each year, and bolts of lightning can travel as much as 10 to 12 miles from a thunderstorm, instantly heating the air to 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the National Weather Service.
根据美国国家气象局的数据，地球上每年发生的闪电次数可达近2000万次，雷雨过程中闪电可行进10到12英里（16到19公里），瞬间让空气升温华氏5万度。
Researchers previously understood that lightning could help to clean the atmosphere, but there was no evidence that it could generate compounds like these radicals.

As a result, the study estimates that somewhere between 2% and 16% of the oxidizing, or cleaning that happens naturally in the Earth's atmosphere, is done by lightning.
因此，研究估计，地球大气中自然发生的氧化或清洁有2%到16%是由闪电完成的。
Researchers say that more studies will need to be conducted to verify the degree to which lightning contributes to the fight against global climate change.

Double Ninth Festival
1、登高
九月九正值仲秋时节，秋高气爽，登高远望，啸咏骋怀，活动筋骨，所以，人们于重阳登高，在时令上是最合适不过的。

2、佩茱萸
古代还风行九九插茱萸的习俗，所以又叫做茱萸节。茱萸入药，可制酒养身祛病。插茱萸和簪菊花在唐代就已经很普遍。茱萸香味浓，有驱虫去湿、逐风邪的作用，并能消积食，治寒热。民间认为九月九日也是逢凶之日，多灾多难，所以在重阳节人们喜欢佩带茱萸以辟邪求吉。
