一、The Wider World
1、'People' as buzzword of 2020
'民'当选2020年度国内字
The Chinese character min, meaning people, was chosen as the nation's most popular buzzword this year, while the hottest phrase related to domestic issues is poverty alleviation. They are among a list of popular words and phrases collected during an annual assessment that sifts through characters used by Chinese-language media. Organizers included the National Language Resources Monitoring and Research Center, and the Commercial Press publishing house.
国家语言资源监测与研究中心、商务印书馆等主办的汉语盘点2020揭晓仪式近日举行。民当选2020年度国内字，脱贫攻坚当选2020年度国内词。
It is the 15th time the lists have been published.
汉语盘点活动至今已举办十五年。
People made the list because people's interests have always been the top priority of the Communist Party of China and the government - and this has been brought home since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers said. The entire country was mobilized to assist Wuhan and Central China’s Hubei province in the fight against the pandemic to save people's lives. After the virus was contained, work and production resumed in an orderly way to ensure people's livelihoods, they said.
主办方对民的解读是：新冠疫情袭来，党和政府以人民利益为重，全中国驰援武汉，力保生命安全；有序复工复产，稳住民生民心。
2、New Fuxing trains ready to roll
复兴号全系列车组投用
New-type Fuxing bullet trains with a speed of 250 km per hour will soon be put into use on several railway lines, according to the China State Railway Group. The CR300 bullet train, a new addition to the Fuxing bullet train family that now covers the speed range from 160 km to 350 km, will be put into service on the railways linking Hangzhou and Shenzhen, Lianyungang and Zhenjiang, Guiyang and Guangzhou, among others.
中国国家铁路集团有限公司近日表示，时速250公里的CR300型复兴号动车组很快将投入使用，即将在杭深、连镇、贵广等多条高铁线路开通运营。至此，我国时速160公里至350公里复兴号系列动车组全部投用。
This marks an important step in China's railway development, and shows that China will continue to lead the world in high-speed rail technology, according to the company.
国铁集团称，这是我国铁路发展史上的重要一步，展现出中国高铁技术持续领跑世界。
So far, Fuxing bullet trains have operated 836 million km safely, transporting a total of 827 million passengers. It is expected that Fuxing bullet trains will be used in all provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland next year, the company said.
目前复兴号动车组已累计安全运行8.36亿公里，运送旅客8.27亿人次，2021年复兴号将覆盖中国大陆所有省份。

As 2020 nears its tumultuous end, the Pantone Color Institute has taken up its annual task of forecasting the color that will best reflect the year ahead.

五、Different Winds
羌族是中国西部的一个古老的民族，被称为“云朵上的民族”，主要分布在四川省阿坝藏族羌族自治州的茂县、汶川等地。羌族源于古羌，古羌人以牧羊著称于世，不仅是华夏族的重要组成部分，而且对中国历史发展和中华民族的形成都有着广泛而深远的影响。
The mountain Festival is one of the most solemn traditional festivals of the Qiang people, also known as the mountain turning meeting, the heaven worship meeting and the mountain king meeting. The mountain worship meeting is an activity of the Qiang people to offer sacrifices to the white stone God, which represents many gods such as the God of heaven and the mountain god. It is also a grand ceremony for people to pray for the prosperity of human beings and livestock, the abundance of grain, the peace of the place and the flourishing forest in the coming year. Due to the climate differences in different regions, the time and frequency of the event are not uniform. It can be divided into January, April and may, and it is held once, twice or three times a year.
祭山会是羌族最隆重的传统节日之一，又称转山会、祭天会、山王会。祭山会是羌族对代表着天神、山神等诸多神灵的白石神进行祭祀的活动，也是人们祈求保佑来年人畜兴旺、五谷丰登、地方太平、森林茂盛的大典。因各地气候差异，举行的时间、次数并不统一，有正月、四月、五月之分，亦有每年举行一次二次或三次。
Lingge Festival is mainly popular in Qugu area of Maoxian county. It is held on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year. If a woman aged 13 to 50 dies, it will not be held in that year. Lingge Festival is to commemorate sister Sarang, the goddess of song and dance in the sky. The whole festival lasted for three days. The women danced in love, Sharon, and the farming and housework were all managed by men.
领歌节主要流行于茂县曲谷一带，每年农历五月初五举行，如该寨有13岁至50岁妇女死亡，则当年不举行。领歌节是为了纪念天上的歌舞女神莎朗姐。整个节日活动持续3天时间。妇女们忘情欢跳莎朗，农事和家务事皆由男人操持。
Over the years, the Qiang language is known as auspicious and happy day. Qiang people used to be an important festival to sacrifice to gods and ancestors after harvesting grain in autumn. It was held on the first day of October of the lunar calendar every year. The time for celebration varies from three to five days. In some villages, the main activities are vows and feasts. The Qiang people once stopped in the 1980s and resumed in 1988, becoming a common festival of the Qiang people.
羌历年，羌语称“日美吉”，即“吉祥欢乐的日子”。羌历年原是在秋天收获粮食后，祭祀神灵和祖先，向神还愿的重大节日，每年农历十月初一举行，各地欢庆的时间不一，一般为三到五天，有的村寨要过到初十，主要的活动是还愿敬神和吃宴席。羌历年在20世纪80年代曾一度停止，1988年恢复，成为羌族人民共同的节日。
