我国二十四节气入选世界非遗名录

The 11th session of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritages opened in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital .

联合国教科文组织保护非物质文化遗产政府间委员会第11届常会在埃塞俄比亚首都亚的斯亚贝巴开幕。

During the meeting, China's "24 solar terms" will apply to be added onto the world's intangible cultural heritage list.

在本届常会上，中国的"二十四节气"将申报世界非物质文化遗产名录。

The "24 solar terms" is a knowledge system and social practice formed through observation of the sun's annual motion, and recognition of the entire year's changes of season, climate and phenology.

"二十四节气"是中国人通过观察太阳周年运动，认知一年中时令、气候、物候等方面的变化规律所形成的知识体系和社会实践。

The 24 terms include Start of Spring, Rain Water, Awakening of Insects, Spring Equinox, Clear and Bright, Grain Rain, Start of Summer, Grain Buds, Grain in Ear, Summer Solstice, Minor Heat, Major Heat, Start of Autumn, End of Heat, White Dew, Autumn Equinox, Cold Dew, Frost's Descent, Start of Winter, Minor Snow, Major Snow, Winter Solstice, Minor Cold and Major Cold.

这"二十四节气"包括：立春、雨水、惊蛰、春分、清明、谷雨、立夏、小满、芒种、夏至、小暑、大暑、立秋、处暑、白露、秋分、寒露、霜降、立冬、小雪、大雪、冬至、小寒、大寒。

It is among the 37 requests proposed for the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and the requests will be examined during the meeting, along with five nominations for inscription on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding.

包括"二十四节气"在内，共有37个项目申报人类非物质文化遗产代表作名录。本届常会将对这37个项目以及5个被提名列入急需保护的非物质文化遗产名录的项目进行评审。

The Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritages in its 10 years of service has inscribed 336 elements onto the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

保护非物质文化遗产政府间委员会在其服务的10年时间内，共将336个项目列入了人类非物质文化遗产名录。

到2020年我国将全面推广车用乙醇汽油

China has for the first time set a targeted timeline to roll out the use of ethanol in gasoline nationwide for cars, part of its efforts to clean up pollution and optimize the country's energy mix.

我国首次设定了在全国范围内推广车辆使用乙醇汽油的时间表，这是我国清理污染、优化能源结构的部分举措。

According to a plan jointly released by 15 government departments, including the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Energy Administration and the Ministry of Finance, the country will implement use of ethanol-added gasoline by 2020, while targeting the large-scale production of cellulose ethanol and the world-leading position in advanced liquid biofuel technologies by 2025.

根据国家发展改革委、国家能源局、财政部等15部委日前联合印发的一份方案，到2020年，我国将实现在全国范围内使用乙醇汽油；到2025年，力争纤维素乙醇实现规模化生产、先进生物液体燃料技术达到国际领先水平。

"The plan was unveiled as the country is pushing the use of biofuel, which is renewable, applicable and environmental-friendly. It is an ideal alternative to fossil fuel," a senior National Energy Administration official said.

国家能源局一位高级官员称：“该方案公布时，我国正在推动生物燃料的使用。生物燃料是可再生的、适用的、环境友好型的。它是化石燃料的理想替代品。”

The plan also said the government aims to build an ethanol production base in the country's northeast, without giving further details.

该方案还指出，政府计划在我国东北地区建设乙醇产业基地，但未透露更多细节。

China is the world's third-largest bioethanol producer and uses nearly 2.6 million tons a year.

我国是世界第三大生物燃料乙醇生产国，年使用量近260万吨。

Gasoline blended with ethanol accounts for one-fifth of its annual gasoline consumption.

中国皮影戏

More than 2000 years ago,a favorite concubine of Wu Emperor of the Han Dynasty died of illness；the emperor missed her so much that he lost his desire to reign. One day, a minister happened to see children playing with dolls where the shadows on the floor were vivid. Inspired by this scene,the smart minister hit upon an idea. He made a cotton puppet of the concubine and painted it. As night fell, he invited the emperor to watch a rear-illuminated puppet show behind a curtain. The emperor was delighted and took to it from then on. This story recorded in the official history book is believed to be the origin of shadow puppetry.

两千多年前，汉朝的吴王的一个爱妃因病去世，吴王非常想念她以至于让他失去了统治的欲望。有一天，一位大臣偶然看到儿童玩玩偶，其影子在地板上很生动逼真。通过这个场景的启发，这个聪明的部长想出了一个主意。他做了妾的棉花娃娃，并把它涂上颜色。夜幕降临，他请皇帝观看窗帘后面的照亮的木偶剧。皇帝很高兴，从此喜欢上皮影戏。这个故事记录在官方的历史书上，被认为是皮影戏的起源。

Shadow puppets were first made of paper sculpture, later from the hides of donkeys or oxen. That’s why the Chinese name for shadow puppet is pi ying,which means shadows of hides. Shadow puppetry was very popular during the Tang and Song Dynasties in many parts of China.

皮影刚开始用纸做雕塑，后来用驴或牛的皮。这就是为什么在中国这被称为皮影戏，这意味着隐藏的阴影。皮影戏在唐宋时期非常流行在中国的许多地方。

In ancient China, drums were initially used in the army and beating drums was a signal of marching on. Later on, drums began to be used in folk performance as a percussion instrument for controlling the rhythm. Gradually，drums became a kind of accompanying musical instrument and drumbeating an independent singing and dancing form. Among the traditional folk drum dances in China,the colored drum and waist drum dances are the two most representative types.

在中国古代，鼓最初用于军队，敲锣打鼓是冲锋的信号。后来，鼓开始被用于民间表演作为一种控制节奏的击打乐器。渐渐地，鼓成为一种伴乐器和有独立的歌唱和舞蹈的形式。其中在中国传统的民间鼓舞蹈，彩色鼓和腰鼓舞蹈是两个最有代表性的类型。

Waist drum dance performance usually involves many people, sometimes hundreds, a magnificent sight for the viewers. During the performance, the drum is hung slantingly on the left-side of the performer's waist, and the dancer, with the drumsticks in each hand, dances and beats the drum at the same time. The waist drum dance is characterized by strong and varied rhythm,vigorous and dynamic style,a harmonious combination between drum beating and dancing. The drumbeats also vary from a single beat to variegated beats,from slow to insistent beats, which, when combined with performing movements, have vivid names such as "three nods of phenix""a good wash of the tiger's face"，"drumming of the thunder god"，"flying of the butterfly"，"pecking of the chicken"，"horse trotting"，and so on.

Cambridge University is advertising for a PhD student to examine the qualities of chocolate in hot weather.

It could be a sweet job for the right candidate, but demands a good university degree, engineering and physics skills, a track record in scientific experimentation, extensive experience of studying soft solids, and good maths. Ridley Scott’s original Blade Runner is, for many, the apex of cinematic cool: a dystopian sci-fi thriller set in the future that is shot like a film noir. Ford, one not given to demonstrative displays of excitement, has called Blade Runner 2049 the best script he’s ever read. His Blade Runner 2049 could do the same, and its box-office prospects could be limited because studio Warner Bros allowed it to have a restricted rating. As the man behind Velvet Goldmine, Far From Heaven, I’m Not There and Carol, Todd Haynes is not a film-maker you’d ever expect to direct a movie for children. But that’s just what he’s done with Wonderstruck, an adaptation of Brian Selznick’s 2011 novel of the same name. It follows two children, one who lives in 1927, the other in 1977, their respective journeys of self-discovery and the mysterious connections between them. Appearances from Julianne Moore and Michelle Williams suggest that Wonderstruck is a movie that should appeal as much to adults as kids, however.
